Ride to SMS from Asheville.. Offered

Hey There, I'm occassionally called neighborLee & am heading to SMS soon. My plans are to go there Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. A friend was going to go with me, but has unexpected family probs to deal with. I could really use a travel companion (i.e. 30-40$ gas money! either way). I have a small truck with room for a passenger & a lot, or little stuff... Here's the catch, I must return Thursday night, so I'm leaving before the gathering actually starts BOO! I may return the following week, under the same schedule, will descide that later tho... your imput may effect the desision...

Either way I'm headiing there, anyone need a ride?

i'm hitching a ride with some philly faeries from philly to the mountain, but they have to leave early (10/1) and i really feel the need and calling to stay through the second weekend.

Doing massage. Playing in the woods. Swimming in the Creek.

Welcome to Samhain 2009!!!!

Samhain at Wolf Creek is celebration, communion, and ritual.
It is also camping, in the Oregon Woods, in October.
Take it from us Queen, a happy gathering means preparing for all weather scenarios!!!
It is usually sunny and hot during the day, and can be downright chilly at night.
This being Oregon, it may rain. Pack a couple of tarps.
Come Prepared to Rough It.

SOME THOUGHTS ON SUBSTANCES…

There is an ongoing dialogue in our community regarding substance use.
These are our intentions for the use of medicines such as tobacco and other herbs and substances:
*To create a strong container and a clear conduit for our personal and tribal magic.
*To respect the diversity of experiences, beliefs, and boundaries around substance use.
*To support the healing work of those in recovery or struggling with addiction.
*To honor the medicine spirits and to ask for their blessings.

SPECIAL NEEDS
This is a camping scenario! We have very limited indoor space reserved for those with SERIOUS health concerns or disabilities. These spaces are for those who would otherwise be unable to participate in the gathering. So if you are able, please Camp It Up Honey!
When requesting special needs housing, please let us know what your special needs are and how we can help you meet them. We will do our best to accommodate special needs visitors. Those faeries who can’t deal with a camping scenario can book a room at the beautiful historic Wolf Creek Inn.

HELP WANTED
This Gathering happens because we choose, for a time, individually and as a community, to take care of each other and the land we're walking on. To live like loving family on a living Earth. For this Gathering to be sustainable, for it to flow in a good way and be fun for everybody, each single person needs to do their share....plus a little bit more.

So if you see something that needs attention (garbage needs taken out, a mess in the parking lot that has been there for three days etc.), don't just trip on down the trail like it's some other queen's job. Take the initiative!

A lot of love and work goes into this gathering. Meals need to be cooked, propane hauled and firewood cut, shitters cleaned and stocked, fire stations ready, circles and rituals led, trash hauled.

HERE ARE SOME GATHERING JOBS. WHAT'S YOURS?
• FUN-Raisers: Organize delightful events to raise energy and money for the gathering and the Sanctuary.
• Kitchen Queens: Help the kitchen flow smoothly. Plan menus, help with ordering, manage the kitchen, support the cooks.
Ideally shared by several people. Be Kitchen Queen for a Day!
• Flowmeister: Help people hook up with jobs needing to be done. Be the logistical lubricant that makes the whole gathering run smoothly.
• Transportation Coordinator: Organize rides to & from Greyhound Grants Pass, Medford airport, Klamath Falls train station, and beyond.
• Zombie Surgeon General: Make sure the first aid kits are stocked and organize other Zombie Nurses (first aid / emergency response).
At the Gathering (see the Barn door for signups):
• Registration: Hang out at the Kiosk or the Barn to greet and orient new arrivals.
• Templekeepers: Help clean and tend the Garden House, Barn, and Temple of Love
• Firewood Czar: Organize woodcutting parties while looking all butch with a chainsaw.
• Fire Tenders: Help with firewood and keep our tribal fires burning.
• Cooks: Sign up with a couple of friends to cook a meal. Nourish your Faerie kin and make their tummies happy.
• Dishwashers: Dishwashers eat first and get blowjobs.
• Garden/Greenhouse: The Sanctuary can always use help with permaculture projects. Please check with land fae before helping out.
• Ritual Planning: Help hold the container and guide the energy for our communal magic.
• Shitter Patrol: Keep our trusty shitters clean and well-stocked. A humble yet vital job.
• Trash Hauler: Carry trash and recycling off the Land so we leave ZERO TRASH FOOTPRINT.
• Zombie Nurses: Be a clear and grounded presence to safeguard your fellow Faeries.

Some thoughts on Dogs (and other familiars)
Dogs roaming free can cause problems for the gathering.
No matter how lovely and well-behaved your dog may be, a pack of uncontrolled dogs on the land tends to bark, fight, poop, and sometimes bite.
They harass the land chickens and chase away wildlife.
For the comfort and safety of all, we ask:
PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO THE GATHERING.
A kennel is available in Merlin, the next town south, where you can board your furry loved one for $10/day. It is called Creekside Boarding, (541) 471-7144, ask for Donna.

Radical Faerie Conference, Urban Gathering and Performance Event

October 2 to 4, San Francisco

This call goes out to Radical Faeries to join together in San Francisco this October 2 to 4, 2009, to invigorate and inspire each other and to help lay the way for Radical Faeries around the world to achieve higher levels of awareness and cooperative action.

In honour of the 30th anniversary of the first national Radical Faerie gathering in 1979, we are gathering together once again to reflect upon and celebrate our hirstory, accomplishments and creative genius.

We are planning a gorgeous event of sharing information, thought-provoking ideas and reflections, and scrumptious entertainment. Last year’s FAEposium was intellectually juicy and gorgeously fun. We think this year’s event is not to be missed!

This, our second annual FAEposium, is no stodgy academic conference, but a mixture of faerie performance, inspirational papers, thought-provoking panels and lively discussions. We take as our model the classical Greek Symposia which were a mix of philosophical thought, entertainment, laughter, feasting, and propitiation of the gods.

What topic are you passionate for our community to talk about? Submit a proposal to facilitate that conversation! We’re interested in whatever creative ideas, wisdom or performative genius you would like to offer to the greater faerie community. We are not terribly impressed by academic credentials, but we are impressed by new ideas, provocative propositions, entertaining presentation styles, and thinking that may affect the development of our community and its future.

Performances

We invite live performances that offer more than art for art’s sake (or camp for camp’s sake)—we want to encourage thoughtful performances that engage and inspire the audience through their content, beauty or complexity.

Workshops, Panels and Presentations

These offer an opportunity to discuss and record our history; explore ideas that you feel passionate about that would be of interest or benefit to the Radical Faerie Community; examine issues confronting the Radical Faerie movement at this critical time; consider ways in which Radical Faeries in urban and rural settings can develop new gatherings and create new sanctuaries; provide venues for skill-sharing of many different types; explore the most pressing needs facing Faerie sanctuaries to help insure their strong future.

The FAEposium is a chance to share our collective and individual wisdom, and creative genius with the larger faerie community and the rest of the world. If you care about where our community is, you probably have something to say and we want to help you express it... using presentation styles most comfortable and best suited to you. Presentations, papers, panels and performance might include a variety of performance approaches, multimedia presentation, spoken word, music, drag, dance, new ideas and provocative propositions.... anything that gets us thinking, feeling and ready to move forward!

During the FAEposium, we’ll honor the gods and goddesses at a Radical Faerie Bacchanal with libations, bangin’ tunes, lovely food and much good conversation stimulated by all that has come before. Afterwards, we will honor Hestia by cleaning up after ourselves. We very much hope you can join us.

Documentation & reflection, creating a rich and varied snapshot, a mirror for us and a place for future Radical Faeries to look back at, is part of this year's Faeposium vision. We welcome you to join us in this process.

I'm heading to the desert for Burning Man this year. It's my first time to see the man burn, and I was wondering if there were any faerie camps headed that way, or recommended locations to put up my tent when I arrive?

Seeking help, please...

I am seeking help in a situation that has developed and enveloped my house in the past week or so. I thought I had seen enough over the years that I would never be in this position. Alas, that is not the case. Just so you know a snippet of what I am asking help for is a dear friend of mine, who is nearly my age (50), HIV positive and still a hard partying mofo on occasion fell off the wagon about ten days ago and wound up in a turkey fryer full of boiling oil with his maternal, social and faerie families.

He has been locked out of his apartment by his mother who was paying the rent because his Social Security, by itself, is barely enough for him to exist on month to month. When he fell off the wagon, apparently, it was the last straw for his 75 year old mother who has been helping him, bailing him out, and trying to help rehabilitate him over the years. When the landlord called to inform her of the current crisis she called his brother who flew into town to literally evict my friend from his apartment.

And that is just the beginning of the story. If you feel the call to help out I would certainly love to hear from you. You can reach me hear on Facebook or email at estebancdlm@verizon.com. Once we get in contact with each other I would appreciate being able to talk on that antique communication device called a telephone. I will share that contact info though on a more secure line.

SMS virgin – arriving on the 30th

I’ve been trying for years to get to SMS for Beltane – but life and circumstances have not cooperated. It looks like I am able to get a couple days off work and line up pet sitters this year. . . so my plan is to arrive early in the day on the 30th. . . and stay through Sunday evening. . . Yeah! (I'm coming from Raleigh NC).

Okay. . . I cannot find my copy of the Goatzette (with the registration, etc.) Does anyone have one they can scan an email me? (raleighzoom@yahoo.com).
Also, I asked this question last year – but I would appreciate any helpful hints about what to bring and what not too. . . and what to expect. I’ve seen some discussion about trying not to bring in any more than is needed. . . so I’m thinking of keeping it real simple: tent, bedding, toiletries, sunscreen, walking around clothing and costuming, maybe some granola bars . . oh, maybe my Hula Hoop too. . .

Turkey Totem

I want to share an experience. If you are freaked out by death or meat, blessings to you but stop here! :)

What an intense Easter experience I've had. It started at Palm Sunday by doing a school project (Developmental Issues in Counseling) about exploring my issues surrounding guilt, sex and shame. I went to The Basilica to face my issues of abandonment and shame from the Catholic church. I sat in the pews and fell apart. I was present and sat with my pain. I then had a pretty yucky meltdown. I processed the experience with my priestess Jill and she encouraged me to see the beauty in what Christians see in sacrifice. So I worked on our burlesque show Sacrelicious, which explores lots of aspects of religion, and got overwhelmed by taking on too much responsibility for the good of the show. I had another meltdown. People pulled out of the show, said it was offensive and in poor taste. More meltdown. Not much spirit left in me. I decided to just get thru the week and pick up the pieces later.

At school on Monday, we found a turkey who probably died by flying into the window where I work at the library. I looked up turkey medicine on the internet. It is about sacrifice, devotion to community and a deep knowledge that all life is sacred. So I bagged the turkey up and met with Shaina, who helped me to honor its death rightly. I faced my "clean skinless chicken breast, please" self and cut into the animal. She helped me remove 2 wings, a tail fan, a head, feet, and many feathers. It is now in my basement, soaking in salt, purifying itself. It most likely will become a glorious costume for Beltane. This is how Morgana does Easter. :)

I know some people were uncomfortable with my taking apart the animal at The Landing. And I know some of my friends are a bit freaked out by my interest in death. But I assure you, this is a sacred calling. Next semester I will be doing my counseling internship with bereavement. Death is a very real part of our life. Let's not be white light woowoo copouts. And I want to affirm that Art is real. Sometimes its images are unpleasant. It is moving at best, and not all movement is white light and bunnies. I am glad to let go of my shame, and ready to say no to my guilt.

Sadness about not coming

Hello Fairys

I do hope things are going well for everyone and that spring is blooming with possibilities.
Life is just like you would expect in the city by the Bay, people busy and active. it seems as if San Fransisco is Blossoming There are lots of interesting events for Fairys . The weather is pretty constant and there are great parks and lots of Trees in the city. I do a blessing and grounding as I walk though the streets, I touch the trees as I walk by and give them a thankyou (after all they are doing allot of work for us humans) at the same time send my roots into their concrete covered roots to ground my energy. Its a very light touch kinda like tag in a childs game. .
Since the fall gathering I have had several life lessons, when I got back to the city, I jumped into helping being a caretaker of BummbleBee. It was work helping take care of him in his last days of life (even though not paid work still very important work). We sang as I played Banjo, made Teas and easily digestable foods. We talked about things one talks about at the end of ones life....regrets, Joys, old friends, Pooping and other spiritual things. I do think of him often and his spirit is still strong.
Unfortuanately right after his death I got sick for a couple of weeks, so since I had not been working my father bought me an airline ticket to come home for the holidays. I had a wonderful time with my family in GA, I stayed with my Brother his wife and their kids for most of my time there and saw most of my family, I had planned on driving up to Short Mountain with my Mom for newyears( she lives very close to the mountian) but the day before we were to go I got very sick and decided not to expose everyone to new germs. My New Year consisted of a Shot of Niquil at midnight.I did see wonderful pictures of the celebration at Sassafrass. it looked as Charming as usual.
I got back to Sanfransisco after the holidays. The very next week I went in to get a "Procedure" ... I was supposed to get one hemoroid removed (that I had seen in some uncut footage of a Porn) and be healed in 6 weeks ready to do porn and other jobs .............................................. BUTT my surgery didnt go ASS planned,
my perinium is split into a Y at my Ass and has exposed flesh under it. and I now have a monster CaliFlower with 5 hemroids
(although the doctor says their are not Hemiroids) and got an infection on my hole.... yeah to much information butt anyway LOL. Needless to say I am not working (although I could do some wierd kink porn I am sure there is some sick fetishest out there that would.... oh never mind) Even though my Tcells have dropped in the process of healing I am doing well emotionally and I am on Antiboitics and will be for the next 3 weeks until I go get my corrective surgery to fix my monster. that unfortunately puts my
healing time right durring the gathering, so for the second time since 92 I will not be at Beltaine. It makes me very sad, butt I know its the best thing for healing. I need to heal so I can go back to work and actually pay people back that I owe money to. I owed over $17000.00 in 2001 after my legal fiascos , I now owe less than 2000.oo and cant wait to get that money monkey off my back, Money always separates people unnessasarily. So I am just praying for quick ASS recovery so I can go back to work.
Anyway Please say hi to all my Loved ones at the Mountain, I will be thinking of you all my Friends If anyone thinks of it please send healing my way on Beltaine I will be horizontal butt thinking of you all. I hope anyone that wants to comes to visit this summer for Gay Pride SF (the end of June) we are going to have a weekend full of suprises I am going to be the Manager of Fairie freedom Village and its gonna be outta control this year, So come on down for Pride.

SF Pride FFV 09

Well hello folks,
Is anyone coming out for SF pride this year. This years Pride we are planning to have several events for Fay folks to gather at. Kind of a City Farie Gathering as it were. Such as having a stage at Pink Saturday and a Tea party in the plaza on the Saturday before pride. And Various Brunches and evening events. I am compiling events and making an event calendar for Fairys (notice how I change the spelling of Feries allot, kinda like some change their names) There are several things needed but mostly we just need each other to get together and make our lives more fabulous. Here is a list of some of those things.
Performers
Musicians
Decorators and Set up
People for Security (yes our own Homoland Security)
People to help with food
People for Clean up and Take down.

There are other things needed also such as materials for decorating the village, did you know they charge us around 1200 dollars for the privacy fencing alone...... HELLLLO We are fay folks I am sure we can find a way to cut the cost and find fabulous materials to hide our village and make it cute. I don't need to talk about how much they wanted to charge for everything we have rented in past years (I went through and made cutbacks that were not necessary) But folks we can make magic happen without having to Rent tents and several other things that we ourselves can produce at 1 fourth the cost. So I am putting out a call lets make FFV feel like a magical world this year.
Anyway summer is coming. I invite anyone that wants to help with Gay Pride FFV to please contact me and just tell me what you would like to participate in. I am going to be the Manager of Fairie Freedom Village this year and there will be allot going on. Fairy Freedom Village is the only space at Gay Pride that doesn't have any buying or selling of products, there are no referendums to sign, or anyone to vote for, or anything to register to vote for, in fact Its main purpose is to be a space where we can just celebrate together.

It is very effective in large groups as a call and answer format. As things continue to get dicey I have found this perfect. Samhain is the final harvest. Some will come through and some will not. Others whom i have respected and learned from have brought this type of thing to my attention before, and i have thought about it for awhile now. And i think it's about time i responded with my ways of seeing. Because I see a grey area here that i think others are missing (because i see no one discussing it).

Some of us, in our self-taught ways of dealing with the realities we get to deal with (i.e. due to our past, not-fully-comprehending "choices" to stand up for some truth or what-have-you), have learned *not* to simply forgive others whom have trespassed upon us (whether intentionally, mistakenly, flailingly, or not).

There are good reasons and bad reasons for this.

Some good reasons:
In my reality, I've had to go about life largely in "trial by error" mode up to now; a self-taught way of dealing with stress and such things. So, I've learned from what resonates with me. The path i've been on has, admittedly, been way too solo. I figured that that was the only "safe" way to proceed. But in the process, i have become too much of "an island".

I'm going to try to articulate this but i'm having a hard time with it.

In my self-taught ways, i've learned for instance, to keep a kind of informal catalog (in my head) of persons whom have seemingly sought to be aggressive towards me, or at least towards the ideas i've tried to articulate over the years. I've done this because of the heaviness of some of those aggressions.

But everyone gets to experience aggressions of various sorts in this society, so why should *i* be any different? Why should i become the veritable *martyr* seeking to pull at your heartstrings (so that you might truly hear)? What qualitively different could i possibly be on that merits your moving away from the, er, herd, and perhaps risking getting labled like my dissent may've been labeled?

All i wish to say at this juncture is:

Imagine for a moment that you are a jew in, say, 1920s germany. You are seeing anti-semitism rearing its ugly head yet again (as it has time and again in history), and you feel that you might contribute to a resistance against such. But every other german is apparently unable to see this building phenomenon. They are in fact, quite immersed, seemingly happily immersed in a kind of jovial approach to life. An approach which cheerfully ignores "trolls" and anyone else who would "try" to put a damper on the little bit of joy they are finally finding.

And thus they respond by categorically denying your seeing, your sensitivity, telling you that *it is best to forgive and forget*!

How curious a position to take. Something i've been studying from time to time, yet seeing a most curious pattern and form taking shape.

On the one hand, for those not being (or no longer being) officially persecuted/oppressed/silenced/blocked-out, such a suggestion ("forgive and forget!") makes A LOT of sense. On the other hand, for the jew in 1920s germany, another problem entirely. For now, all the folks who are positioning themselves as being "drama free" and all of such and so forth, are acting as though your truths as you see them have no merit!

And the situation builds.

While those germans who might've been able to help "nip [anti-semitism] in the bud" before it became what it did (and affected many many other groups), had fully *rationalized away* this development! Making it so that it seemed that nazi-ism was merely a SUDDEN thing...and somehow incomprehensible. When in fact it was the result of a long drawn-out process of ever-heightening REFUSAL to SEE, refusal to listen, with sprinkled in assumptions like "it'll never happen here".

Sadly, quite a "normal" reality for, as far as i can see, ALL "civilized"/"developed" societies today.

Bob Moore, in his book _Victims and Survivors_ (of the nazi holocaust in europe, and especially in Holland), touched significantly on the phenomenon. It's an important read, if you can find it. He mentioned how the elite sectors of Dutch jewish society were *prevented* from even seeing the building danger. How their very "well educated" consciousness was rendered in such a way as to be taken fully by surprise when the inevitable happened.

So this is part of where my dissent from popularized, professional forms of mediation (aka social "management" techniques) and analysis has come from. Where my systematic attempts to demystify "a good education" (the phrase coined by Chomsky) hail from. Where my seemingly lonely sniping stand (at least amongst faeries) in challenge to the sophisticated, streamlined, heavily-funded neo-"pop"-social psychology mind-set holds out.

And has learned not to "forgive" so easily. Or at least, has learned to keep some kind of record of actions, patterns, and allegations coming from my fellow victims of this kind of society we live in (and, yes, I can categorize *all* into being "fellow victims", even if/when they are professionals seeking to divide and conquer our dreams).

Walk in the shoes of a jew in early-fascist germany, and look deeper than the nazi program.

An important voice of anti-psych-coercion, Peter Breggin, MD, has actually contributed some important insights into the phenomenon of social service professionals contributing significantly to the holocaust, and if you take a read of the pdf file linked below, you will start to see, i think, parallels to things that i am saying,
i.e. of the "well educated" not only taking up positions of *uncomprehending trust* in Given ways of allegedly solving "problems" (like so many seemingly sophisticated faeries), but also being "willing accomplices" who "believed in" the nazi system --in the seeming absence of any other "solution" to the alleged "problem"!

Breggin exposes how the psychiatric profession actually contributed significantly to the nazi imagination! He links from his page ( http://breggin.com/index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=37 ) in the words "the role of psychiatry in helping to bring about the holocaust in Nazi Germany." Many of you won't, perhaps, know from what vantage point i am coming from in relating this part of human history, but that's okay with me. For those of you whom *are* familiar with such, i ask you to please consider what i'm saying. Especially as you absorb and try to wield the seeming all-encompassing validity of statements like "forgiving" those whom have perpetuated war against their fellow humans.

Having said all of this, perhaps I am missing key insights in all of this? Well, that's part of what i love about the radical faeries, after all! That i can sometimes have a habit of underestimating you!

Still, so far, i have felt that i have HAD to proceed as i have proceeded, albeit imperfectly (someone once said to me, "perfectly imperfectly" and i liked that line of thought). And have HAD to remain wary and "hold onto" things both said and done in the past. And not merely as a way of processing in the only place i have so often felt i can only trust (i.e. in my own personal spirituality).

Where i have sought to bring attention back to "old" situations over and over again, this comes not without reason. Tho *differently abled* than you are apparently having your attention hooked into seeing.

A little love to Dream Eagle for the virtual heart circle he created on his profile page; his sharing got me to step away from some of the bad feelings i've kept too long over the years towards him. See, i *can* step away from some!

Finally, i think it's mistaken of so many faeries these days to apparently hold the belief that their fellows should have to "go it alone" with the various hangups and blocks we have developed in this kind of society. On one hand i see merit to such (i.e. to not be overwhelmed), and on another, i see folly; especially in the long run. For the Centered and Balanced today could easily become the Off-centered and Way-off-balanced of tomorrow.

Rigidly, i categorically dissent from such tactics, calling for more creative use of our intelligence to help people process out/through their/our "stuff", and in the long run, bring the "ugly ducklings" (of any age) into continually-becoming excellences of the "beautiful swan" phenomenon we often so much dream of living amongst!

May all the most hostile (and not trusting) dissenters and cast-offs from fae community find themselves radically celebrated in such a way as to not merely build up our communities of sanity, but LEAD visionarily! Because those who stick with their intutions/critique most heatedly today, could well be vital CHAMPIONS in the future! (and that goes for those who dissent most heatedly against groups i belong to as well!)

What I'd like to know is whether there is a bus that goes near the sanctuary. I may be busing in from Nashville or PA, not sure yet. Maybe there will be pickups or people renting cars(have no credit card, can't rent one myself) going from Nashville. I'd love to get a ride in that event and help with gas/driving/merry making. Short Mountain spring gathering- a rahther delicate question...

I have visited Short Mountain several times on my way back and forth to Nashville and fell in love with it the first time I saw it. I have never had the gumption to attend a gathering but am thinking about going this spring. I think I kind of have some idea of what to expect. The only thing I'm really worried about, and I know this might seem toilet-centric, is... well... where do all those people poop??!! I know Short Mt. has a 4-holer (and a privy), but, really, can that handle a crowd of 500 people? Should I expect to have to hike up my ballgown somewhere out in the woods and just let 'er rip? Eeeeek. Oh dear. Help!

Another gathering is approaching and I was just wondering if anyone had access to a food processor that could be donated to the sms kitchen or be used for the time of the gathering. It would sure make cooking for so many people so much easier. If it seems like something that could happen without too much trouble, it would be greatly appreciated. Anyone going to be at Short Mountain Fall Gathering?

Howdy! I'm going to my first faerie gathering ever in two weeks (i.e. the fall gathering at Short Mountain). I'm traveling with two others (my partner, who it will also be his first time) and our friend Gecko. We arrive Friday night (Sept 26) and are staying through Tuesday evening (Sept. 30).

I know a couple of people from the Philadelphia area that are also going to be there, but wanted to just say, "Hello," and begin to perhaps put names and faces together with people that might be there before I get there because I'm horrible at remembering names when I learn a magnitude all at once.

Also... I would love to hear thoughts/comments on what to expect? What should I bring? What did you take you first time that you realized you really didn't need at all? etc.

I look forward to meeting a bunch of you in two weeks at SMS.

Knoxville Church shooting: Was It a Hate Crime?

Yesterday a gunman opend fire at a Knoxville Unitarian Church killing two people and wonding several others. The national media is hinting that that it was a hate crime. The church was affirming of gay and lesbian people. One church member was quoted that the gunman yelled "hateful things" as he fired. One news report says that a "manifesto" was found in the suspect's car. It seems that the local police have told wittnesses not to speak to the press. Does anyone from the local region out there have any other information?

The 8th annual Queer Shamanism Gathering will be held between August 15th-24th, 2008 @ Zuni Mountain Sanctuary in northwestern New Mexico.

The Stewards of the sanctuary are putting out a call for energy assistance in this endeavor.

This years proposed and requested possibilities include -- Storytelling, Heart Sharing; Sweat Lodge; Positive Tea; Playback Theater; Acoustical Music Circle, Divination Studies, Desert Walkabouts / Visionquesting ; Massage, Energy Balancing, Claycrafting; Desert astronomy; entheogen discussion; body/energy playgroup; BDSM workshop, desert spirit rain dance; Morning/Evening Yoga; Incense Making; Herb Wildcrafting; Poetry ReadingRants, permaculture and various happening and on-going infrastructure projects.

A Know-Your-Talent Show Multi-Media Arts Exhibit is planned for the Wednesdays (in the middle of the happening) as a benefit for the sanctuary and the neighboring community. Help make this your gathering by letting us know where your interests are and how you would like to plug your energy into the mix.

Plenty of tenting areas are being prepared by faeries for camping on Camp Hill as well as more secluded permaculturely friendly areas on the land. The RV parking is also available for persuns wishing to camp nearer the road. Food and water will be provided by the sanctuary with vegetarian meals prepared and served by volunteer attendees. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions, allergies or other health concerns or with special needs we should know about.

Booze!

Lots of booze at this gathering. Shitty beer everywhere. And seemingly an insatiable demand for more! If this is the reality, why not turn it to our advantage?

People were showering money at the rainbow absinthe village to the tune of $20 per pint, or making gas-guzzling sidetrips to town just to buy another 6 pack. Imagine all that money going instead into the mountain's coffers. Imagine an official mountain-sponsored bar.

Yes, there would be some work involved, and yes there are some *issues* involved, but the reality is that booze is more and more prevalent. If we're not going to ban it or curtail it or look down on it so as to vibe it out, we should be integrating it.

Centralizing distribution could, if properly handled by sober people (haha), be a financial boon for the sanctuary, and having a central location for it could help reduce various dangers such as stumbling down a ravine while looking for the party. It would also tend to concentrate the heavier drinkers in one place leading to fewer of them out and about bothering non-drinkers.

Some might say that making it official would lead to it happening more, but really, has anyone been holding back for fear of disapproval?

The wonderful and epic Idyll Dandy Acres (a.k.a. IDA) is a revolutionary transgender land commune in rural Tennessee. For 20 years, IDA's played an important role in keeping our movement vital with its support for activists, travelers and musicians. Their biggest bash the annual Idapalooza Fruit Jam has incubated some truly amazing queer art and music too.

But there is trouble in IDA-land. Our friends have been renters for many years and the land they live on is now for sale. This 250 acre parcel of wooded and quiet land is on the market, and Ida has to raise a whole bunch of $$ to buy the land from the original owners ... or face eviction. The toss. Out in the cold. Sadness.

So the call goes out to all friends of IDA to come down and help raise the money these cats need to keep doing their thing. We'll be enjoying the comfort and spaciousness of downtown's Bubble Lounge. Four incredibly zany, talented queer performers will delight and entertain you. Sad, Sad news from Chael

Hello dear faes;

I am sad to share this missive with the list but there are many on this list that knew Louise from gatherings at Short Mountain Sanctuary. Louise passed from this life yesterday morning from a heart attack. For those of you that knew of her beloved Maine coons Max and Rosie, they are being well cared for. Should I hear further information regarding Louise's passing I will post that information here.

The tears are running hot on my cheeks any my heart is heavy with her loss!

Truly, truly sad news indeed. Cooking muffins with Louise in the early morning hours, in the kitchen, at Short Mountain sharing bagels and dishing up tea was truly is one of my fondest memories of Tennessee gatherings. Sitting with her on the knoll while she knitted as I would rest on the stone table by the goat barn in the afternoon’s comes in a very close second! She truly was a wonderful, kind, spirit who will be irreplaceable within the confines of this existence.

getting to the crux of fae youth/elder visionary seeing, re: women on our lands

This is an excerpt of an exchange i'm having with a certain elder in our community. i thought i'd share it here with an invite to add to my (and your?) consciousness on this topic. Feel free to take this and post it on other faerie communal sites/boards!

i have to say that while i find myself on the fence on this topic, i am in agreement with you and the other elders whom have been taking the stand your are speaking of. Having said that, i see that the youth that you all have collectivley held on your shoulders (i.e. after, what, more than 20 years of fae community) are now only trying to take fae sensibility into places that their desires are going. New directions like becoming inclusive of women; and that those new directions make sense in today's realities as these youth feel them.

Even tho they are missing the polytricks of a lot of this, i think (i.e. where their approach has become "black and white" or "either/or").

Still, my own seeing is that the way in which this is happening sounds a lot like the political police (i.e. today's version of COINTELPRO) are influencing the nastier parts of how this vision wants to be implemented; i.e. as "each side" seemingly remains incapable of bridging between (and empathizing with) each others' positions. [Note: What the contexts of this seemingly impossible gap are, are perhaps many even tho i think they can all 'boil down to' one prevalent phenomenon, the one doing with "the generation gap"--which in itself is an artificially-promoted gap led by the political police both overtly and covertly]

Where our oft-spoken empathy *should* bring ecstatic room (much room) for dissent and grey area seeing, in actuality we are experiencing the superficiality of those claims and desires that have not been able to be practiced in such a way where they can be pivotal when *it truly counts*.

As far as faggot-centered decision-making on this? Well, a lot of the young generation are in on this; they are the leaders as far as i can tell; sooo, that means, FAGGOTS ARE making these decisions, divisive as they are, apparently.

i know my own experience in the context of faggots wanting women on the land; in the initial phases of women being invited, they become *more equal* than common faggot males like myself. So that's certainly an interesting phenomenon. Our need for sanctuary is being relegated to the sidelines as womenfolk are recruited (right word?) into the creation of something more dynamic (ultimately) than earlier renditions of faggotry and faggot community.

So it's the transition that i think we ought to cast our magick upon, my friend.

But of course, we are dealing with such in the context of more than 30 years of political police/Rollback efforts to divide our generations from each other (and not to mention the ramifications and reflections of oppressed faggot elder sensibilities now judged without empathy and in the most alienating ways; i.e. the prevalence of the phenomenon called "objectification" of each other amongst the elder portion of faggots, and today's safer approaches where "objectification" has to be evolved from in the younger generations' desires).

What do YOU think about all of THIS?
