First off, WOO-HOO for a plug for Zuni's Faerie Shamanism gathering. (also often known as Faerie University!) For anyone who wants to hear more, check out the Zuni tribe here on Tribe.net, or go directly to Zuni's site (unlike SMS, they maintain an online presence): www.zms.org

Next, I do believe dates have been chosen for the fall gathering. (I have them recorded in my iCal already.) But I'm not sure if it's OK to post them here? If someone knows exactly what the parameters are of how much we can disseminate here, please speak up.

Not sure if y'all are talkin about the SMS fall gathering... if you are then stop the mail now! First hand word from SMS residents, 16 hours ago was that there are not only no dates set, but talk of moving the dates a week or two earlier this year.

For the first time in many years SMS Fall Gathering will not be competing with IDA's Fruit Jam. A neighboring event that has always been held in mid Sept. This year IDA decided to do something really radical & host an event while they actually had water! The Fruit Jam formerly known as IDApalooza, formerly known as Art Land is gearing up quick like. The dates are June 4-11, work week precedes that. Y'all Come!

A different shameless plug from Neighbor-Lee... Be Well

P.S. I could be wrong about this, so PLEASE seek your own info from a SMS resident, or Goatzette subscriber first hand, before scheduling... we still have a bit of time left before Fall...

That would be great news if it is earlier because I have to back in Europe at the end of Sept

I find it interesting that the folks at IDA have no qualms over posting gathering dates here but SMS is so paranoid about the whole thing. Has anyone nailed down the real dates for the fall yet? Cetacea has to request vacation time for work and the sooner he does that the easier it is for him to get the time off when needed. IF, you do have the dates Please email me privately. Thanks y'all,

              Esteban

Esteban, I think "paranoid" is overstating things. They just have made a conscious (and, many of us agree, wise) choice to let word spread organically, rather than putting it out across the entire internet. The goals of the sanctuary and of IDA's Idapalooza are not the same, which goes a long way to explaining why IDA has a site trumpeting their event.

As far as gatherings go, I think it's a great thing if faeries do their own "gatekeeping" of newbies before inviting them along. After all, it's not that long ago that someone came to Beltane saying he'd heard that SMS was "the next Burning Man."

The reality of TN is that outside of our circle, it's not all that safe for GLBT people who live out in the boonies. Discretion is somewhat of a must..

                  A prime example: tinyurl.com/6c639x

Mcminnville is 20 miles or so from SMS... =/

Okay, perhaps 'paranoid' is a strong word but as the video showed it is not out of the realm of possible words to use for the situation. My post was not meant as any attack on SMS just a sincere curiosity over the difference between the public relations of the two sanctuaries.

I understand the need for discretion in the rural outskirts of society. We used to have a wonderful little gathering here in Texas that no longer exists because of the possibilities of hate crimes in NETX. Our old friend, Lee Spruell, used to have gatherings every Memorial Day near Texarkana. However after the fifth or sixth year the locals began to hear about them and he began to hear rumors of possible violence, etc. He hasn't hosted a gathering for ten years now. And, as anyone in Texas knows there are not any gatherings going on in the whole state these days.

So, please don't mistake my curiosity for accusation. Hugs all 'round,

                    Esteban

In (Judy)Garland, TX where I am beginning to get my gathering gear together in preparation for heading to "Camp Camp" next week in Arkansas.
